Worst halftime show

since the wardrobe malfunction, easy. These people have one talent: being annoying. The lady singing the national anthem was terrible too. Who picks these things? I’m assuming they’ve already been fired.

Are you sure the Green and Gold isn’t coloring your perceptions? (I happen to agree with you, but I just wanted to check)
If anything, my loathing of the Packers made me predisposed to enjoy the halftime show. I always look forward to it, and I figured it would be the only good thing to come out of this game. Boy was I wrong! It’s not a matter of style or taste. Those clowns simply have no talent, not even for putting on a show (apart from the auto tuned “singing”). I think my hell would be that game, including the halftime show, on an infinite loop.

I doubt it, unfortunately. I’m sure the group that appeared was picked because of its enormous popularity. It’s a reflection of the depths to which our popular culture has sunk.
Ah, you guys sound like our parents did when Madonna and co. stormed the stages of the 80s. This is a generational thing, don’t you think? I actually thought some of the dancing was pretty impressive. Didn’t care much for the singing though.
I think that’s certainly possible, although i don’t like the thought that I cannot separate personal taste from recognition of talent. As a musician, I can appreciate a good performance even when I cannot stand the music. In my (possibly geezer-like) opinion, this was a combination of people who cannot sing and a choreographer who had some really, really bad ideas.
The only good thing was Slash. At least he can actually play the guitar.
On behalf of the young people in the audience, we don’t much care for the Black Eyed Peas. This comes from a real, live 20′s something member of Generation Y who happens to enjoy some pop music. They are terrible. Someone should have fixed their auto-tuners to make them sound like people who can sing, or for that matter, get some people with actual talent in the first place. Although Usher was there for his dancing last night, he can sing fairly well, so why didn’t he just do the show? The only member of BEP who sort of is able to sing, Fergie, did a terrible job. The rest of them were only shouting out the lyrics and they even did a rotten job at that. There are plenty of other groups that have talent and appeal to the younger crowd. BEP was kind of cool a few years ago. I even liked a couple of their songs. But, last night they definitely bombed. As for Christinia Aguilera, she used to have a couple of popular songs despite her ridiculous vocalizing on every other note, but last night she definitely made a grievous error. I’m also a musician and I know it’s a tough piece to sing, but the words are something she shouldn’t have missed. My advice is to do the song as written without all the embellishments and then maybe she could have focused on the words. And for the record, I am a Packers fan.
The problem with National Anthem performances these days is that the singers keep trying to put their own spin on it and that can lead to disaster (kind of like contemporary worship!). Probably the most talented individual I’ve ever heard sing the anthem at a sporting event would be Jim Cornelison. (Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMmIKoC3DQQ) The performance sent chills down my spine just watching it on television!
Unfortunately, I think Super Bowl halftime shows are going to get worse, not better as the years go by.
