The sin of excessive inquisitiveness

Luther, commenting on how many fathers say nothing about Lot’s wife being turned into a pillar of salt, while others relate ridiculous ideas, says in AE 3:
Perhaps this happened through the extraordinary providence of God, in order that we may keep reading the sacred books and not merely be occupied with reading the commentaries of human beings, who often sin through their excessive inquisitiveness.
