Half Lot’s life

Luther observes that when Lot loses his wife (Gen. 19), he loses “half of his life.” If, joined to our spouse, we are truly “one flesh,” then to lose your spouse is to have, as it were, your own flesh torn asunder.
Thus, “husbands, love your wives,” and wives, “submit to your husbands,” for in doing so, you are loving and submitting to half your life.

Noone explained that to me before I made a big stink over saying “obey”. I must have seemed like bridezilla to the clergyman (a relative) who married us. I’m grateful for this explanation.
This reminds me of the TV show Monk. I love the way Monk’s relationship with his wife is portrayed in the show….
