Sixteen years ago today, my dear Kassie and I were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Moore, Oklahoma. Truly God gave me a gift in her! What Luther says in his lecture on the marriage of Isaac and Rebekah is entirely true:

You should learn to pray and to wage war against the flesh. But then ask God to give you a Rebecca and not a Hagar or someone worse. For a good wife does not come by chance and without God’s guidance; she is a gift and not the result of our own plan or will, as the heathen think.
