No two people will agree on everything. Unless a community is controlled by a tyrant, where free thought is forbidden, there will be disagreements. We would like to think it wouldn’t be so among Christians. Yet we still have the sinful nature corrupting our desires. And the devil, particularly, hates the Church; he will do anything he can to turn Christians against each other, drive them away from Christ and His gifts – and the people He has given us to love despite their vexing personalities. So there will be disagreements among Christians. Our temptation will be to stomp away, or go to war. But the cross of disagreements are to be a tool for our growth as disciples. Disagreements should always drive us…

LCMS elects new president

Rev. Matthew Harrison was elected president of the Missouri Synod today. He defeated the incumbent, Rev. Gerald Kieschnick, 643-527, on the first ballot. Afterward, Rev. Herbert Mueller, Jr., was elected first vice-president. President-elect Harrison is currently the executive director of LCMS World Relief and Human Care. He is the author of “A Little Book on Joy,” the editor/translator of “At Home in the House of My Fathers,” and translator of numerous writings of Lutheran dogmaticians. Rev. Mueller is the president of the LCMS’s Southern Illinois District.
