Lutherans for Life statement on Thrivent

Posted on February 11th, 2014

Thrivent’s recent “values neutral” policy continues to draw heavy criticism from the Lutheran community, and has brought shame upon the Lutheran name in the broader Christian community and among pro-life groups. Lutherans for Life has recently issued a statement. It is not yet posted on their website, but I received a copy today along with permission to post it here. Please spread the word. Because human life is created in the image of God as proclaimed throughout scripture (Genesis 1:26-27, 9:6; Psalm 8:5, Colossians 3:10), and because every human being is someone for whom Christ died to restore the image of God, the sanctity of human life is a basic Lutheran/Christian value. Martin Luther strongly condemned abortion: “Those who have no regard for pregnant women and who do not…

Information for Lutherans attending the 2013 March for Life in Washington, D.C.

Posted on January 23rd, 2013

For the last eleven years, Immanuel Lutheran in Alexandria, VA has hosted a Divine Service before the March for Life. We expect that will continue in 2014. However, this year the Divine Service is part of the larger LCMS Life Conference being held at the Hyatt Regency in Crystal City (Arlington, VA). You do not need to be registered for the conference to attend the Divine Service. The service begins at 9:00 a.m., with LCMS President Matthew Harrison preaching. After the service, we will take the Metro into the District for the March. If you are planning on attending the March for Life but cannot attend the Divine Service, plan on meeting your fellow Lutherans at 7th and Independence at 12:00 noon. Look for the…

Roe v Wade, or Dragon v Woman? Sermon before the March for Life

Revelation 12:7-13 Audio here. “I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things…. And in one Lord Jesus Christ … by whom all things were made…. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life.” The issue is not abortion. The issue is not a matter of our culture. The issue is not a matter of our educational system. The issue is not a matter of the support, or apathy, among our clergy. The issue is not our political system. To be sure, all of these are broken. Our culture is a cesspool, saturated with soft pornography, blasphemy, and covetousness. Our educational system devours the minds of the young, producing relativists who…

March for Life 2011

Posted on January 25th, 2011

The 2011 March for Life was yesterday, preceded by the annual service at Immanuel with the Lutherans for Life group. You can listen to Dr. Lamb’s sermon here. I’ll post pictures later when I get back to my home computer, but here’s a brief little report I gave on Issues, Etc. yesterday afternoon:  2011 March for Life Report (Source: Issues, Etc. listen on-demand archives). Lutherans come from all over the country, but every year there are a couple of pastors in northern Virginia who faithfully come and bring members of their congregations: Pastor Jim Knill of Concordia, Triangle, and Pastor Bob Koehler of Fredericksburg. Kudos to them for their faithful witness. Issues, Etc. doesn’t simply give lip-service to the pro-life movement – they are…
